The National Public Radio newscast anchor Carl Kasell, right, will retire from the job at the end of the year, NPR said Monday. But Mr. Kasell will continue to keep score for NPR’s weekly quiz show “Wait Wait ... Don’t Tell Me!” as that program’s official judge. A familiar voice for millions of morning listeners, Mr. Kassell has read the news on “Morning Edition” for 30 years. “After 30 years of waking up at 1:05 a.m.” to prepare for the newscasts, NPR said in a memo to employees, Mr. Kasell “has decided the time has come to sleep in.” He will anchor a final newscast on Dec. 30.
