The Nets are rolling toward the infamous 3-17 like a boulder down a hill. That sorry record after 20 games was the mark that officially doomed Coach John Calipari one season ago, and it doesn't take much clairvoyance to see that Coach Don Casey's Nets are headed for the same spot. The Nets (2-15) are host to the powerful Sacramento Kings (11-3) tonight and the solid Milwaukee Bucks (9-7) on Wednesday before visiting the hapless Chicago Bulls (1-13) on Friday. The Nets are not assured of beating anyone, but a loss to the Bulls would be surprising.

For women caught in a difficult labor, a study offered reassuring news about the safest way to deliver the baby. Contrary to what many doctors and patients had assumed, once labor has begun using forceps or a vacuum tool poses no more risk of brain hemorrhage to the newborn than performing a Caesarean section. All three methods are linked to a slightly higher risk of brain injury than a normal, spontaneous birth, but researchers say the increased risk appears to be due to abnormal labor, rather than to the method of delivery. The British Sky Broadcasting Group is expected to announce on Monday that it will pay $1.3 billion to acquire about a 26 percent stake in a pay television concern owned by the Kirch Group, a German media company, executives close to the talks said here tonight.
