CHANNEL 7 CHANGES TIME OF NETWORK NEWSCAST

Channel 7, citing competitive pressures, will move ABC's ''World News Tonight'' with Peter Jennings out of its 7 P.M. time period next month and replace it with the highly rated game show ''Jeopardy.'' ''World News Tonight,'' a strong third in the three-network ratings competition, will be broadcast at 6:30 P.M., at a time when there are fewer viewers but no other network news broadcasts on the air. Channel 7 (WABC) will drop 30 minutes of its daily local evening news package, which currently runs for two hours.

CPC-Arnold Deal

Ford Tractor Plant

The Ford Motor Company said it would close its last agricultural tractor plant in the United States by 1988 and transfer all tractor operations to Europe. Ford said the closing of the 12-year-old plant in Romeo, Mich., would cut costs and reduce capacity in the troubled agricultural tractor industry. The jobs of 650 hourly and 175 salaried workers would be eliminated, Ford said, but the division's headquarters would remain in Troy, Mich.

Official Quits At Salomon

Peter Gottsegen, the London-based head of international corporate finance for Salomon Brothers, has resigned effective at the end of the year, Salomon's executives were told yesterday. The surprise resignation comes just a few months after Mr. Gottsegen moved to London from New York, where he was a senior figure in the firm's corporate finance department.

Hutton Link Is Ruled Out

The two top officers of the E.F. Hutton Group told employees yesterday that Hutton would not resume its merger talks with Shearson Lehman Brothers, and that they intended to keep the firm independent. Robert P. Rittereiser, who was named chief executive over the weekend, said that ''there were no offers'' and labeled most takeover rumors ''baseless.''
