HAVANA, Feb. 24 (AP).--Jean Lafitte, an importation from Miami, carried the silks of the Keeneland Stud to an easy victory in the $5,000 Independence Handicap at Oriental Park today.

The Eastern Steamship Lines, Inc., announced yesterday that it had awarded the contract for two new ships, to be built at the cost of $3,500,000 each, to the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Work will be started at once, according to the shipbuilders, and the ships will be ready to enter the service in May and June, 1932.

CHICAGO, Feb. 25.--An improved technical position incident to the decline recently of around 4 cents from the late high point and a strong Winnipeg market were largely responsible for a rally in wheat today on the Board of Trade here after a small dip at the start.
